Come with us to one of the most magnificent places you will ever see: the Wieliczka Salt Mine—the only salt mine in the world that has remained so well-preserved. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is recognized as one of the seven wonders of Poland. During the tour, you will traverse around 3 km of corridors located anywhere from 64 to 135 meters underground. You’ll see many breathtaking chambers cut deep into the rock, underground lakes, and salt sculptures carved by miners and others. The world-famous Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the Polish jewels of the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is located in the Kraków metropolitan area, in the town of Wieliczka, where the extraction of salt began on a broad scale in the 13th century. Today the mine attracts about 1.2 million people from all over the world anually.

Meet your your leader in a pick-up point selected during the booking process and get onboard to travel to the town of Wieliczka. The journey will take approximately 30-60 minutes, depending on traffic. After reaching the town, you will skip the line, join a group and meet your guide that will accompany you for approximately 2 hours.

You will visit the Tourist Route of the mine which is located underground. At the beginning of the guided tour you will descent approximately 380 steps to reach level I of the salt mine (there are about 800 steps in total to descent or climb during the tour).

You will walk the underground passageways and discover marvellous salt chambers, underground saline lakes and the jewel of the mine, St. Kinga’s Chapel, fully carved in salt, including its famous salt sculptures and chandeliers.

At the end of the tour, you will get back to the surface by elevator. You will meet your tour leader and travel directly to Kraków, to the place where you were picked-up.

Practical information

  • the tour starts with going down 380 steps
  • there are about 800 steps on the entire route
  • the temperature underground ranges between 14° and 16° C
  • you will return to the surface by lift
  • luggage larger than 30x20x10cm cannot be brought into the mine
  • there is no lunch break during the tour
  • if you buy a student ticket, please do not forget to bring your student ID (remember that student tickets are only for guests under 26 years of age)
  • if you would like to take photos, you must buy a photographic pass at the entrance to St. Kinga’s Chapel
  • the Museum is closed on Nov 1st, Jan 1st, Dec 25th, and Easter Sunday
