Description

Auschwitz Birkenau is the site of the most horrifying mass murder in human history. Today, it serves a memorial, and a window into the deepest reaches of the human soul. During the tour, you will be able to visit the permanent exhibition and original buildings such as gas chambers, crematoria and barracks. The exhibition shows prisoners’ belongings from the time of the camp’s operation: clothes, photos, copies of documents and other things concerning the camp history and prisoners.

Meet your tour leader at the pick-up point selected during the booking process and get on bus for an approximately 1,5-hour journey to Oświęcim, a town located 60 km away from Kraków. Upon arrival, you will pass will a security inspection before entering the grounds of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum.

You will join a group of up to 30 people and you will be guided by an official educator certified by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. You will visit two parts of the museum – Auschwitz I camp and Birkenau, where you will see the  original camp buildings, the railroad spur, camp fence and the ruins of the gas chambers and crematoria. Most of the tour would be help outside but you will enter some of the original barracks to see the permanent exhibition.

After visiting Auschwitz I, you will travel to the other part of the museum, Auschwitz II – Birkenau, located approximately 2 km away, where the guided tour will be continued. The guided tour of the two parts of the museum will last up to 3,5 hours in total.

After the tour, you will get back directly to your pick-up point in Kraków.

Practical information

  • luggage larger than 30x20x10cm cannot be brought into the museum
  • there is no lunch break during the tour
  • the Museum is closed on Jan 1st, Dec 25th, and Easter Sunday
  • visiting the museum is not recommended for children under the age of 14
  • visitors should be dressed appropriately when visiting Auschwitz Birkenau
